Welcome to the English Modern School’s Early Childhood Center (ECC).
We are very excited about teaching and learning with your child this year. My name is Cynthia Wrenn and this is my third year as the Principal of the ECC here in Doha. I have been an administrator for twenty years and taught primary school and secondary school before that. My background includes educational research and leading professional development. I am honored to work with you and your children.
Our exceptional team of educators is looking forward to enriching your child’s learning and providing meaningful experiences to develop a lifelong love of discovery. We truly want our students’ school year to be a positive and enriching experience. The ECC has developed a philosophy that centers our curriculum and approach to learning we would like to share with you:
At the Early Childhood Centre of the English Modern School of Doha we provide an engaging curriculum, presented in a creative environment, with play and inquiry-based activities building active and excited learners. We want every child to have a positive outlook towards school and a lifelong love for learning. We are also proud of our culturally diverse environment and our focus on children becoming tolerant and caring global citizens. We are partners with our parents to make sure each child is celebrated as a vibrant individual with unique talents, who deserves a loving, safe, caring and nurturing learning environment.
We look forward to an incredible year of learning with you and your child.
Here are a few reminders that will help make this school year the best for your child.
Some important information for parents
Arrival and Dismissal
Note: Teachers have other duties after 12:00. They are not available to care for children left behind after noon.
Each day we have two snack breaks and children may get water anytime, as needed. Please make sure your child has a nutritious snack, as well as plenty of water to drink. Pack a healthy snack such as a sandwich, juice, fruits, yogurts, vegetables, cheese and cereals. Foods such as potato chips, French fries, chicken nuggets, hotdogs, chocolate, fizzy drinks and other junk foods are not permitted. Please make sure your child’s lunchbox is labeled with his/her full name and class.
Birthdays and celebrations
We are happy to celebrate your child’s birthday in class but only during the last fifteen minutes of the school day. Please tell the teacher at least two days ahead of the day and use the form available at the front desk if you plan a party. Please only bring cake and juice/water, Birthdays will be celebrated at the end of the school day at 11:45.
Change of clothes and labeling
Please send a full change of clothes with your child including socks and underwear- enclosed in a plastic bag with full name and class written on or attached to it. All school jackets, hats, gloves, backpacks, and lunch bags need to be labeled with your child’s full name and if possible, his or her class name.
Please inform the teacher and school nurse if your child has any allergies immediately. Nuts are not allowed in school as some children are extremely allergic to them.
The grade level weekly newsletter will be emailed to you each Sunday. Please take the time to review it and use the activities to bolster your child’s interest in learning. We also have a website which we will connect you to through the emailed newsletter. Because our newsletters are full of helpful electronic links they will not be printed.
Ways to help your child shine at school
Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep so he or she can wake up refreshed and ready for a full day of learning and activities. Children this age require eight to ten hours of sleep a night. They also need to start each day with a nutritious breakfast. Thank you in advance for doing these things. Sleep and good nutrition will make a tremendous difference in your child’s ability to learn.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher by sending an email and she will reply back to you within 24 hours. At EMS, the classroom teacher is the person who knows your child the best, so she is the first person with whom you should speak. If there is an urgent issue, you can contact the ECC department receptionists during the day and they will pass your concern to me or the appropriate team leader.
Thank you for working with us to create an amazing future for your child.
